The Hopi language is part of the Uto-Aztecan language group, one of the largest Native American Language groups.On First Mesa, a group of relative newcomers from the Rio Grande Tewa Pueblos speak the Tewa Language.We thank the parents and relatives who assisted with this project, without their help and generosity the First Edition of this calendar would have been more difficult to produce.The concept of "Little Red Faces" was to highlight our Native Children found among some of the native communities in the southwest.The images on this site are direct scans; no alteration or adjustment of any kind has been performed.The cabinet cards (also called Boudoir Cards) are as they were when discovered.The name Hopi is a shortened form of the Hopi word for themselves: Hopituh Shi-nu-mu ("The Peaceful People" or "Peaceful Little Ones")The Hopi Dictionary gives the primary meaning of the word "Hopi" as: "behaving one, one who is mannered, civilized, peaceable, polite, who adheres to the Hopi way." Traditionally the Hopi are highly skilled farmers. The Hopi also participate in the wider cash economy; a significant number of Hopi have mainstream jobs; others earn a living by creating high-quality Hopi art, notably the carving of Kachina dolls, the expert crafting of pottery, and the design and production of fine jewelry, especially sterling silver.

We wrapped up the project knowing our native culture and heritage is alive and well, as these Little Red Faces understand who they are and where they come from, thus establishing their cultural identity.The particular zone also includes an approximate water area of 14160591 square meters.Additionally, this zone also consists of the succeeding zip-codes .These children live and play among the most beautiful lands in Arizona and New Mexico.We were able to capture a bit of the culture through the various traditional clothing they wore.No attempt has been made at cleaning or restoration of these images.
