The map compilation process requires extensive testing and quality control to ensure navigation information is accurate, and takes approximately 9-10 months to complete.
Please be mindful of this when you receive your map update, as some of the latest roads may not appear.
So, I called in to Service Plus only to be told that my three GPS units are no longer supported, that they would need software upgrades before they could load new maps, and that there was a serious risk that the update/loading would brick the units.
Personally I can't see why updating mapping software should invalidate the 'operating system' but that was the story told!
Navig8r is one brand offering "free lifetime maps" with units such as the i50.
I've got a Navman icn 530 but the maps are at least 2 years out of date. Do any of you know if they have updated them as all I can find refer to the original set.there's one road on the way to the Panshangar course where it thinks there are about a dozen right hand turns, none of which you want, in 300 yards.
In addition, there's a discount on those units.
There are some conditions: the offer applies from April 1, and the web site says the unit must be purchased before July 31. Navman is also offering 24 months of free map updates for the EZY30 and EZY40 units, as well as the discount.
If you've never updated the maps on your GPS device the cost might come as a bit of a shock.
Try to explain to him his free updates for life that came with it are now over. My opinion of standalone GPS units are now redundant unless you have a specialised purpose I called in to Service Plus only to be told that my three GPS units are no longer supported, that they would need software upgrades before they could load new maps, and that there was a serious risk that the update/loading would brick the units. Navman told him he couldn't cause it was too old and it's not user repairable anyway and he should buy a new Navman..
He took it apart himself and I bought a suitable battery online from overseas and DIY.
We have three Navman products: an MY50 with NZ and Oz maps, an MY60, and an MY90XLT that Mrs T won in a competition but which had to be replaced a couple of times because it bricked itself, (the latter two are both NZ only).
I have updated maps a few times, but over the last 12-18 months I haven't been able to update at all because as soon as I start the process, my computer hangs.
